Why not just get the code read for free?
It's a useful start, but a code only says which system noticed a problem, not what caused it. A lean-running code, for example, can be a vacuum leak, a dirty sensor or a weak fuel pump. Diagnosis is the testing that tells them apart.
Is it safe to drive with the check engine light on?
If the light is steady and the car drives normally, get it looked at soon. If it is flashing, the engine is usually misfiring badly enough to damage the catalytic converter. Ease off and call us before driving further.
How long does a diagnosis take?
A straightforward fault is often found within an hour. Intermittent or multi-system faults can take longer, and we'll check in with you before going past the time we agreed.
